How long have you been at CMU and how did you get here? What (if any) other roles have you had at CMU? What did you do before coming to CMU?I started at CMU in December 2023. Before coming to CMU, I served as a Residence Life Coordinator at Penn State Greater Allegheny and, before that, an Assistant Resident Director at Point Park University. I’ve always had an interest in higher education, working with students and aiding them through their academic journey.
What is something you love about Dietrich College and/or your department?
A few things I like about Dietrich college are the great team of advisors I work with every day. I also appreciate the support and collaborative atmosphere among all the faculty, staff, and students in Dietrich college.
Please share with us one of your favorite quotations and why you love it.
“Ut est rerum omnium magister unus”- roughly, “Experience is the teacher of all things.” Attributed to Julius Caesar, this quote has been a mantra in the many twists and turns of my life and career. Firsthand experience is often the best way to really evaluate your understanding and skill.
What was your undergraduate major? How did you end up deciding on it?
As an undergrad, I was a history major. I have always had a love for history, across a variety of cultures and time periods. Specifically, I enjoy learning about historical causes and effects, how one thing led to another and why events played out the way they did.
What activities/hobbies do you like to do outside of work and/or what do you like to do to de-stress or unwind after a busy day?
My favorite hobby is to write. I enjoy writing short stories and have plans to write a novel or two in the future, if I find the time. Going on walks through the local parks is a great way to unwind and enjoy some nature. Other hobbies of mine include traveling, reading, and going to the movies.
What is a recommendation for a fun thing you like doing in Pittsburgh?
Going to a Pirates game in the summer or Penguins game in the fall are a strong recommendation! If you’re not into sports, I can recommend checking out zoo or the Heinz history center.
