How long have you been at CMU and how did you get here?

I've been here at CMU since the Summer of 2018 as a member of the Statistics & Data Science academic advising team. Prior to my time here at Carnegie Mellon, I worked for a while in telecommunications and more recently as a graduate assistant working with students struggling academically while completing my graduate degree in Higher Education.

What is something you love about your job and/or what is one of your favorite memories of being an advisor?

One of the things I cherish most about my job is to work with students through challenging circumstances. College is a hard and complicated time for everyone, and there will be tough moments. Yet these moments can instruct us and teach us in significant ways, as long as we have the support we need to get through challenging times. My favorite moments to witness are when students are able to overcome and move on to reach their goals and ultimately graduate.

What is one of your favorite quotations?

"I am going to make it through this year, if it kills me" - The Mountain Goats

The Mountain Goats are a band that I've loved since my college days. This refrain in particular has helped me through some tough times. Great songs and even better lyrics

When was a time when you struggled or encountered a setback? How did you respond?

I had to take some time away from college due to a medical issue. It ended up taking me three years to go back and finish my undergraduate degree. During that time, I learned a lot about myself, and that it takes a highly motivated person as well as a significant support system for you in order to have the best chance to succeed at something challenging. I do my best to provide that support my students due to what I learned from the challenges I faced and how important that support was to me.

What activities/hobbies do you like to do outside of work and/or what do you like to do to de-stress or unwind after a busy day?

Being a new father, I don't have a lot of time to do as much reading as I would like. I recently got back into audiobooks and have found that it's easier for me to finish than finding time to read a physical book. I am always looking for good book recommendations!
