Grahn Awarded Ellegood Fellowship

PhD candidate Rick Grahn has been awarded the Julia and Michael Ellegood Strategic Doctoral Fellowship for this academic term. Grahn earned his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering University of New Mexico and joined the department January 2018.

Currently he is co-advised by professors Sean Qian, Scott Matthews, and Chris Hendrickson. His research centers on the interaction between ridehailing services (Uber, Lyft) and the existing public transit system. He is looking at strategies to improve the efficiency and equity of modern transportation systems.

“I would like to thank Julia and Michael Ellegood for their contributions, which support my continued graduate research,” says Grahn. “I am honored to receive this fellowship that allows me to research alongside passionate and motivated faculty members and students within the CEE department. Having the support of this fellowship truly enhances my graduate experience and I am incredibly grateful for it.”

This fellowship was established with the generosity of Michael (BS '60) and Julia Ellegood in 2008 and targets research where more traditional funding sources may not yet be available.
