  The Purnell Center

Completed in the fall of 1999, the $36.2 million Purnell Center for the Arts houses the university's School of Drama.

The facility offers several state-of-the-art performance venues. The mainstage Chosky Theater seats 500 audience members for large-scale productions. A studio theater provides a more intimate, "black-box" setting space for smaller productions.

Additional facilities in the Purnell include classrooms, faculty offices, rehearsal studios and a dance studio. A costume shop, scene shop, paint shop and metal shop provide students with hands-on experience behind the scenes. A TV studio is located within the facility.

The Purnell also houses the Regina Gouger Miller Art Gallery, a 6000-square-foot exhibition space for contemporary works of art.

Academy Award-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz and musical director of the Rose O' Donnell Show John MacDaniel were among the alumni who came back to campus to celebrate the building's official unveiling in 2000.
