Community Commitment events, formally known as Days of Service, offer a meaningful way to contribute and grow as a community-minded leader.

Orientation Community Commitment

The Orientation Community Commitment introduces new undergraduate students to community engagement as a core part of the CMU experience. Students spend the day volunteering with local organizations, learning about the city of Pittsburgh, and building early connections with peers through shared community engagement. Projects are guided by student site leaders who help participants reflect on social issues, community context and their potential as changemakers. This event sets the foundation for a meaningful and engaged journey at CMU.

Fall Community Commitment

The Fall Community Commitment invites undergraduate and graduate students to join together in a campus-wide day of action. Participants contribute to hands-on projects led by community partners across Pittsburgh—from environmental cleanup to food access and more. Guided by trained student leaders, volunteers engage in reflection that helps them explore the root causes of issues and identify ways to remain active throughout the year.

Winter Community Commitment

The Winter Community Commitment offers a timely opportunity to re-engage with community partners and continue making an impact during the spring semester. Students support a variety of projects designed to meet real-time needs such as shelter assistance, resource drives and more. With support from student site leaders, participants also reflect on how this midyear experience can deepen their values, leadership skills, and sense of place in the Pittsburgh community.

Service Saturdays and Partners Allied in Civic Engagement also offer opportunities for direct service.
