Press Release: New Search Tool for Large Gene Expression Databases Could Uncover Therapeutic Targets, Biological Processes
Developed by a team of U.S. and Israeli scientists led by Carnegie Mellon University's Ziv Bar-Joseph, the tool, called ExpressionBlast, enables searches based directly on experimental values, rather than keywords. The researchers already have used ExpressionBlast to uncover intriguing clues about SIRT6, the first gene shown to extend lifespan in mice and thus a potentially important drug target.

Jason Richard Koenig, Anuj Kumar, Gabriela Marcu, Ishan Misra, Mrinmaya Sachan were chosen based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership. On average, Siebel Scholars rank in the top 5 percent of their class, many within the top 1 percent. Each receives a $35,000 award for their final year of study.
