I am a Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, and have been at Carnegie Mellon since 2001. I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a Ph.D. thesis focused on fault-tolerant distributed computing.
I enjoy doing research in the areas of distributed computing, edge computing, mobile systems, and embedded systems. I really enjoy working on applications that lead to sports technologies. I am the Director of Carnegie Mellon’s AthleTech Lab, which is focused on using sensors, systems, machine-learning, and rigorous field testing to develop technologies to improve the training, performance, and recovery of athletes. I have previously led the Intel Science and Technology Center in Embedded Computing as well as the CyLab Mobility Research Center. I have also served as the Director of the Intel Research Lab in Pittsburgh. Along with my students, I have 100+ research publications in various areas of computer software and hardware systems.
In 2009, out of my love for sports technology, I founded YinzCam, a Pittsburgh-based company that works with professional sports teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, LaLiga, English Premier League, and more, to provide unique digital experiences at global scale.

Woman of Steel: Priya Narasimhan, CEO and founder of YinzCam, has designs on doing, well, everything
— Business Times
Priya Narasimhan reflected on the latest step in her remarkable journey. YinzCam, the mobile app company of which she is CEO and founder, had just signed the Vodacom Blue Bulls, a rugby team in South Africa. It is YinzCam’s first client on the continent where she grew up. “This one was personal to me,” she said.
Both Narasimhan and YinzCam are global enterprises. She was born in India, raised in Zambia and moved to the United States in 1998 to get her Ph.D. at UC Santa Barbara. Eleven years later, she founded YinzCam, and with the Blue Bulls on board the company now has clients on four continents and close to 200 clients overall. Among them are the NFL (24 team apps and status as the league’s official in-stadium handheld technology provider), the NBA (21 team apps and the league’s official team mobile and arena app developer) and La Liga (as the official app developer).
