Transformative Opportunities in Transportation

Chris Hendrickson, director of the Traffic21 Institute at CMU and chair of the National Academies’ Transportation Research Board Division Committee, just published a perspective piece about Transformative Opportunities in Transportation.

"The next few decades can transform transportation if we seize the opportunities available from new processes and technology."

Hendrickson argues that transportation technology has improved over the past 100 years, but it has not yet been transformed. In the piece, Hendrickson focuses on prospective improvements in propulsion, automation, and telecommunication technologies as ways to transform our current transportation infrastructure.
