Bio

Before joining CMU, Alvin Ling studied physics at the University of Chicago, recognized for outstanding research with the Walter and Fay Selove Prize in Physics. With his background in physics and recent developments in quantitative finance, he will bring a unique perspective, blending quantitative and financial expertise. He applied mathematical and programming skills in projects such as fundamental research on superconductivity and novel quantum materials, where his contributions resulted in two internal papers and opened up new avenues for research in theoretical condensed matter physics. He also analyzed data to research the transition between granular solids and liquids, using advanced statistical metrics and signal detection techniques. His experience as an R&D intern at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company further honed my skills in pattern recognition, noise detection, and empirical solutions of partial differential equations. His ability to bridge theory and practice was evident in his previous work in research. He is excited about the opportunity to apply his skills and knowledge to launch his career in quantitative finance.
