Prospective Members
Fraternity and Sorority Life at Carnegie Mellon University offers more than tradition–it offers a transformative experience.
Our chapters are made up of driven students who are looking for deeper connections, meaningful leadership opportunities, and a home away from home. Whether you are interested in community service, academic excellence, or personal development, there is a place for you here.
We encourage you to explore the 18 fraternities and sororities that the Carnegie Mellon community has to offer. Find more information about the four councils and the options you have to join. If you have questions about joining the community, contact cmu-fsl@andrew.cmu.edu.
What is recruitment?
You may hear terms like “recruitment,” “intake,” or “rush” when exploring fraternity and sorority life. These terms refer to the different joining processes used by the fraternity and sorority organizations at CMU. Every council/chapter joining process will look different. You may attend events, interest meetings, or interviews as a part of the selection process. For more information on how the different councils recruit.
What are the requirements for joining?
Membership in a fraternity or sorority at Carnegie Mellon is open to any currently enrolled undergraduate student in good standing with the university. Each organization has its own specific requirements for membership, which may include a minimum grade point average and attendance at certain events. For more information about the specific requirements, please reach out to the individual chapters.
