Radioactive Waste

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) defines radioactive waste as radioactive material that no longer has a use.  Commonly used radioactive materials are Phosphorus-32, Hydrogen-3, and Cobalt-57.  EHS manages radioactive waste for the protection of people and the environment, ensuring the proper storage and disposal of radioactive materials.

Items collected as radioactive waste includes, but is not limited to:

  • Dry radioactive waste
  • Liquid radioactive waste
  • Sealed radioactive sources
  • Other items contaminated with radioactive materials

Please note that all radioactive waste pickups are by request only and do not have designated pickup days.
