Youth Programming

Arts Greenhouse uses a creative learning model for its youth programming. This model emphasizes the humanistic, historical and cultural roots of various mediums in order to prepare students to be well-rounded, well-prepared, and self-aware future artists, professionals, and citizens. Students are introduced to the different paths the arts and humanities can lead them to and how creativity, collaboration, and intentionality can be leveraged into positive futures for themselves and our communities.

Arts Greenhouse develops curricular themes focused on amplifying students' voices, allowing them to express themselves and tell their stories.

Self-reflection and collaboration set students upon a natural course of analyzing who they are as individuals, then viewing themselves as part of a larger community and an interconnected environment, and lastly, advocating for changes that improve the place in which they live.

Arts Greenhouse’s integrated curriculum draws content and context from visual arts, music, and creative writing. This has the benefit of being more engaging to students, strengthening their learning, and reaching a broader band of students than a traditional, single-focus approach.

Curriculum is designed using the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for the Arts and Humanities, criteria from the Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time Quality Campaign, and a culturally responsive pedagogy promoting arts and humanities education as a social practice.
