Carnegie Mellon has never been more popular among college-bound students. For the upcoming school year, a record 22,780 applications were received for 1,360 available seats. That beats the previous high of 22,052 applications for the 2007–2008 school year. Last year, there were 21,747 applications. The numbers are especially heartening to Mike Steidel, director of admissions: 'We're fortunate that in light of today's economic challenges families continue to believe a high-quality education is an excellent and worthy investment."
