M. Shernell Smith has a bachelor of science (B.S.) degree in Biological Sciences & Honors Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Central Arkansas and a master of education (M.Ed.) degree in Higher Education from the University of Arkansas.

Shernell works as Assistant Director in the office of the Dean of Student Affairs. She has committed nearly 14 years of service to the university.
