What Is Staff Council and Why Should I Care?

By Tim Leonard

60 elected officials –from all parts of the University –fighting to make a difference in the work lives of staff –striving to create engagement opportunities to build our CMU community.  Staff Council serves you, and we can make a difference in your life.

Staff Council is the representative body for all staff employed by CMU.  Through ten committees varying in scope from benefits to wellness, we serve as advocates, as influencers, as event planners, as researchers, as confidantes, and as so much more.  We are the collective voice of staff during times of need, and we go the extra mile to ensure that staff have a voice at the table when decisions are being made.  We host social events, service events, community-building events, and everything in between.  If there is an idea that someone has, we will listen.  If there is a concern that someone has, we will provide options to pursue.  We will try new things and fail, but we will try new things and succeed.  We are a working group of colleagues –of friends –and we aim to do what’s best for staff at CMU.

You can join Staff Council as representative to help us make a difference, or you can simply get involved by attending our events or participating in our programs. Divisional representative elections begin on Monday, February 26! Keep your eyes open for ways to get involved in the coming months, and never hesitate to reach out to any of us for any reason.
