Giving Tuesday

BACKGROUND

Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, is observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. This year, Carnegie Mellon University is again turning #givingTuesday into #givingCMUday for a 24-hour day of giving.

2016 RESULTS

In 2016, CMU had incredible participation by students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the university – across campus and around the world. With efforts from across the campus and using social media, together we were able to achieve the most donors giving in one day in the history of CMU – 1,430! And we want to beat that number in 2017.

2017 PLAN

This year, Giving Tuesday is November 28 and any gift made from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. will count toward our 24-hour total. Real-time social media engagement throughout the day, as well as on-campus events, will engage the global CMU community.  Please make a gift at www.give.cmu.edu/givingcmuday to any fund at CMU and participate in the challenges throughout the day. Challenges will include:

  • Presidential Student Match of a 2:1 dollar match for students only on Giving Tuesday.  Gifts may be made to any fund including student organizations.
  • Alumni only opportunity to be entered into a drawing to SKYPE with Dr. Farnam Jahanian, interim president of CMU, with a Giving Tuesday gift ($5.00 minimum).
  • Matching funds for the Nooks project with a 1:1 dollar match
  • Matching funds for the UPLIFT project with a 3:1 dollar match
  • And MORE!

The day will kick-off with a midnight party for students – Plaid Palooza.  Social media will be very active, including a Facebook LIVE event.  A student-only challenge will award two students with $500 each to give to the fund of their choice, including student organizations!

During the day, tabling events will be held at the CUC and various college sites to provide an opportunity for campus individuals to make a gift in person and recommend a fund to receive $500.

Check CMU and CMU Alumni pages of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn frequently during Giving Thursday for challenges and updates on our fundraising progress.

And remember…
If your heart is in the work, give from your heart this Giving Tuesday!
