Creating Equitable Mobility at the Pittsburgh International Airport
An important component of airport landside operations involves providing assistance to passengers with reduced mobility. Findings from Metro21 project, Optimal Escort Dispatch for Airport Travelers with Reduced Mobility, was published by Elsevier.

Collaborating to Build the World’s Smartest Airport since 2013
Carnegie Mellon was one of the first universities in the nation to partner with its home airport. In 2018, CMU and the Allegheny County Airport Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding allowing faculty and students from CMU's Metro21: Smart Cities Institute to research, develop and deploy several projects throughout the airport that will benefit local travelers and the entire aviation industry.

The Metro21 display, featuring Surtrac, is located in Concourse A near gate A10! This display showcases the partnership between Carnegie Mellon and the city of Pittsburgh by highlighting the benefits of smart traffic lights.

Roadbotics, founded in 2016 at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute, set out to create a way for cities to have automated and affordable road surveys using smartphones. Over the past 6 months, Roadbotics have won multiple awards and contracts for its innovative solution to better monitor the condition of street pavement in cities around the country.
