Metro21 Moderates Smart City Panel at IRI Conference
The 2019 IRI Annual Conference was held in Pittsburgh from April 29 – May 2, 2019. The annual conference is focused on convening innovation partners to tackle hot button issues in digital transportation and strategic solutions.
The IRI Annual Conference explored what companies must do to adapt to transitions in technology. Thought-leaders came together from organizations and companies like University of Pittsburgh, Uber, Covestro, Boeing – and Metro21: Smart Cities Institute.
Metro21’s executive director, Karen Lightman, moderated a panel on April 30 entitled “Public-Private Partnerships are the Pot Luck Dinners of Smart City Development – Academia is your Host.” Panelists included:
- Kristen Kurland, Teaching Professor of Architecture, Information Systems, and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon Univ.
- Katharine Kelleman, CEO, Port Authority of Allegheny County
- Mark DeSantis, CEO, RoadBotics
- Jim Morozzi, President and CEO, DQE Communications
The panel explored how the panelists define “smart city” and what role their organization has in a smart city. They also discussed the most realistic, sustainable business models for smart city deployments & how “physical meets digital” applies to their work in smart cities.
