Round-Up of RoadBotics Awards & Accomplishments

Metro21 Faculty Christoph Mertz has been on an impressive run with the company he co-founded, Roadbotics. Roadbotics, founded in 2016 at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute, set out to create a way for cities to have automated and affordable road surveys using smartphones. Over the past 6 months, Roadbotics have won multiple awards and contracts for its innovative solution to better monitor the condition of street pavement in cities around the country.

A few of their recent awards and accomplishments include:

GovTech100 List- This “annual list compiled and published by Government Technology as a compendium of 100 companies focused on, making a difference in, and selling to state and local government agencies across the United States.” This is the second year in a row that Roadbotics was part of this list.

Smart50- RoadBotics customer Montgomery, Alabama received the Smart50 award in the category of mobility because of the purchase of the Roadbotics product.  The Smart50 awards  “annually recognize global smart cities projects, honoring the most innovative and influential work.”

ASCE Grand Challenge Award-The American Society of Civil Engineers awarded Roadbotics with its Overall Greatest Impact on Delivering the ASCE Grand Challenge Award.  They also won the Most Innovative, Most Feasible, and Best Value in the category of “Internet of Things.”

SXSW- The Roadbotics team will be at the SXSW startup pitch competition. The team beat out over 800 applicants to pitch their company at the Austin event in March. The company will be part of the artificial intelligence category competing against four other startups. 

The team has also continued its growth by selling their services to large metro areas such as the City of Detroit, City of Savannah, and the City of South Bend. This has led to their latest round of seeding funding which raised 3.9 million dollars from multiple venture capital firms from around the country.
