Metro21’s Exec. Director Joins MetroLab Network’s Board of Directors

MetroLab Network was launched as part of the White House’s Smart Cities Initiative in 2015. Today the initiative is a network made up of more than 35 city-university partnerships that are committed to bringing data, analytics and innovation to city government. MetroLab Network’s projects address challenges facing urban areas today including environmental sustainability, infrastructure, inequality in income, health care, etc.

Since the spin-off of MetroLab from an initiative to a separate organization, they have created a board of directors to help govern and guide the organization to ensure success. We are excited to announce that MetroLab Network has elected Metro21’s Executive Director, Karen Lightman to serve on the Board of Directors for the next three years.

The board of directors is made up of a diverse team who work in academia, municipal government and tech communities and have backgrounds in philanthropy/non-profit organizations. Karen’s diverse background with leading Metro21, commercializing academic research, building industry-based consortiums and strategically leading teams to explore market-based opportunities will bring a dynamic perspective to the team.
