CA Selection Process Overview and Timeline

Information Sessions

Every student who is interested in pursuing the CA role for the 2018-2019 academic year is required to attend an information session.  This is an opportunity to engage with ResEd staff to discuss the role and an opportunity to learn about the ResEd residential curriculum.  It is also a chance to have all of your questions about the selection process answered.

  • October 24, 2017 @ 4:30PM:  Porter Hall A18A
  • October 25, 2017 @ 7PM:  Porter Hall 125C
  • October 26, 2017 @ 8PM:  Porter Hall 125C
  • November 8, 2017 @ 8PM:  Porter Hall 125C

Step 1: Online Application Materials

Due Friday, November 17, 2017 at Noon
Submission of online application materials is the first step in your application process. You will need to complete the online CA application and upload BOTH a cover letter and resume.

Step 2: Presentations

December 1-3, 2017

Applicants will be invited to give a presentation to the CMU Housefellow team. The presentation should be between 8-10 minutes and address the following prompt:  How do your personal values connect with the ResEd educational priority?  How will you utilize your personal values to actualize the ResEd priority in your work as a CA? 

Step 3:  Interviews

December 4-19, 2017

Applicants will schedule a traditional 45-minute interview with two housefellows. Applicants will be asked to speak to the following areas:

  • Motivation and general knowledge about the CA role
  • Leadership and Team Building Experiences
  • Community Values
  • Administration, Planning, and Management

Step 4:  Debriefing Conversation

December 4-22, 2017

Applicants will have a 10-minute debriefing conversation with senior leaders in the Office of Residential Education.  This will give applicants an opportunity to share any final information in support of their candidacy, have any final questions answered, and to discuss possible communities that may be a good fit should candidates be offered positions.

Decision letters will be made available via email during the week of January 8, 2018.
