Scott Institute Selects CMU Energy Week 2021 Student Research Poster Competition Winners

The sixth annual CMU Energy Student Poster Competition featured 25 posters presented by CMU students across the university. From the School of Architecture to the College of Engineering, students presented their novel research focused on topics ranging from fuel cells, to electric mobility to climate change. Eleven judges from industry, government and academia virtually reviewed and scored the posters as part of CMU Energy Week 2021’s virtual programming.

Please join us in congratulating the winners of the 2021 poster competition:

• First Place - $1,000: “Using PV Inverters for Voltage support and Night can Lower Grid Costs” by Engineering and Public Policy PhD student Yamit Lavi
• Second Place - $500: “The Future of Hydrogen in Commercial Aviation” by Hannah Brown (Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy), Clare Callahan (Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy), Adrielle Cailipan (Energy, Science, Technology & Policy), and Sang Hyun Ma (Energy, Science, Technology & Policy).
  
• Third Place - $250: “Design and Development of Additively Manufactured Molten Salt to Supercritical CO2 Heat Exchange in Concentrating Solar Power Application” by Ziheng Wu (Materials Science and Engineering), Tracey Ziev (Engineering and Public Policy), Srujana Yarasi (Engineering and Public Policy), Nicholas Lamprinakos (Materials Science and Engineering), Junwon Seo (College of Engineering).
• People’s Choice - $500: “Improving Economic and Operational Viability, Energy Efficiency, and Environmental Impact of Medium- and Heavy-Duty Electric Delivery Fleets via Optimal Routing, Vehicle-to-Grid Integration, and Peak Shaving” by Rami Ariss (Civil and Environmental Engineering), Shang Zhu (College of Engineering), and Leandre Berwa (College of Engineering).
