Athletics Facilities Policies
You must present your CMU ID at the Equipment Desk for a wristband if you want to use the University Center exercise facilities. Wristbands must be worn on either wrist during your use of the exercise facilities, and should be put on in view of the Equipment Desk attendant.
Please note that the wristbands use a hypoallergenic adhesive. If you are concerned about skin irritation from the wristbands, please purchase a sweat band to wear on your wrist and place the wristband around it.
Wearing a wristband identifies you to the University Center staff as being a valid member of the Carnegie Mellon community or a guest thereof, and allows you to use the facilities. Wristband checks are used to ensure that only members of the Carnegie Mellon community, and their guests, are using the facilities and equipment because of the limited exercise space and equipment.
If you use the exercise facilities and do not wear a wristband, you will be asked to please return to the Equipment Desk to receive a wristband in order to continue using the facilities.
Comment cards available at the Equipment Desk
If you would like to leave a comment about service you have received, equipment that is inoperable or broken, or suggestions for improving our facilities, we encourage you to fill out a comment card available at the Equipment Desk.
Guest Policy
Guests of Carnegie Mellon students, faculty members, or staff members must obtain a guest pass before visiting the exercise facilities. Guest passes may be purchased from the Information Desk for $5 by any CMU student, faculty member, or staff member presenting a valid ID. The guest must turn this pass over to the Equipment Desk to receive a wristband. Guest passes are valid for one day.
Children under the age of 12 are permitted to use the gymnasium, tennis courts, and pool as guests with their parents for free.
Guests must stay with their CMU sponsor at all times, and can only use the exercise space being visited by the CMU sponsor. For example, if a CMU sponsor plays basketball, the guest must play basketball as well. Guests must leave with their sponsors.
Spouses and children
Carnegie Mellon faculty and staff may request an affiliate ID for their spouses and children (ages 12-21) through Human Resources. Students may sponsor a spouse by submitting an application at the ID card office.
Affiliate ID cards must be requested from the ID card office by submitting the request form [.pdf] on the lower level of Warner Hall. There is a $15 fee per card.
Towel Policy
You may request a towel at the Equipment Desk for your shower, or if you are swimming. You must sign the towel out under your Andrew ID at the Equipment Desk. You must return the towel to the desk when you are finished.
You may only sign out one towel at a time.

Courts Reservation Policy
You may reserve a racquetball or squash court by using our online court reservation system. You must create an account to make a reservation.
All court reservations are for one hour and begin on the hour. You have until 10 minutes after the hour to claim your court. If you do not claim your court by 10 after, you have lost your reservation. If someone is using the court when you arrive after that time, then they may continue to use the court until the next reservation.
Group X-ercise Class Policy
Group X-ercise classes are held in the second floor Activities Room. A schedule of all classes [.pdf] can be obtained at the Equipment Desk or on the Athletics website. To participate in a Group X-ercise class, you will need to purchase a Group X-ercise card from either the Equipment or Information Desk. Each class is $5 for a single class (or one punch on a punch card). 12-punch cards are available at the Equipment Desk for $40. The Equipment Desk accepts checks or money orders, and the Information Desk accepts check, credit card, or cash payments.
You must check in at the Equipment Desk before your class to sign in and receive a wristband specific to that class. You will not be allowed to participate in the class if you do not have this wristband. If you are going to use other exercise facilities, either before or after your Grouo X-ercise class, then you will need to obtain a general wristband at the Equipment Desk.
