Campus Living-Pre-College - Carnegie Mellon University

Campus Life

Spending the summer away from home can be an exciting experience, so we have compiled information by topic to help you prepare for your time with us:

If you have questions, we suggest that you read the "learning content" from the Enrollment Portal in full. If you still have questions, please feel free to contact us through any of the means listed on our Contact Us page.

Residence Halls

Resident Pre-College students live in Morewood E-Tower, Mudge House, and Donner House. Over the summer, student rooms are organized into single-gender floor sections, each with an assigned pair of Residential Advisors (RAs).

The Pre-College RAs are supervised by Community Advisors (CAs), all of whom live in the residence hall that they will be supervising. The RAs and CAs are current Carnegie Mellon University Students who have undergone and intensive training program to provide academic, social and personal support for their residents.

This staff is supervised by the Office of Pre-College Student Affairs. All residential staff and the CAs are based in the Student Life Suite in Morewood Gardens.

Desk Service Attendants

Each Pre-College Residence Hall has a 24/7 desk at the front of the facility. The desk will have a staff member (DSA) that is prepared to answer most questions that you will have during your stay. In order to enter a residence hall, you must show your ID to the DSA on duty.

Washers and dryers are provided in the residence halls and are free of charge for the students. However, detergents nor other cleaning supplies will be provided for the students.

Shared spaces, like certain bathrooms, lounges, and larger areas are managed and maintained by our custodial staff. However, students are responsible for their individual spaces. All room, and maintenance issues must be reported by submitting a maintenance request through the online Housing portal. In some instances, maintenance personnel may need to enter students’ rooms over the summer to attend to current maintenance concerns or to perform repairs. Rooms will be inspected regularly during the Pre-College program by Housing personnel.
