Arriving on Campus

Opening Day (Saturday, July 1, 2017)

Students and parents will have the opportunity to hear from the Pre-College Academic Coordinators and the director of Pre-College in Student Life. Students and parents will also meet with program instructors and discuss student schedules, followed by a dinner for students, parents and program staff. Parents are encouraged, but not required, to attend Opening Day. Please find a SAMPLE ORIENTATION DAY schedule here.

Transportation to Campus:

Specific directions for arriving to campus will be provided closer to the move-in date. Since students will be guided to move-in to specific residence halls, they will be provided directions depending on the residence hall that they have been assigned to. Geeneral options for traveling to campus are:

  • 28X bus (from PIT airport): The 28X Pittsburgh Port Authority bus is an easy way to travel to campus. The bus can be found at the PIT airport Door #6 on the lower level. Please be aware that the 28X bus runs between the hours of 5:30am – 12midnight. If students are arriving outside of these hours, they must arrange alternative transportation. Bus fare is $3.75 per individual and please be prepared to have exact change as the bus drivers do not give change. The final stop of the schedule Oakland – CMU stops directly in from of our building, Morewood Gardens & E-Tower. The entrance is through the courtyard, however, the Opening Day Registration tent is location in the Morewood Lot.
  • Taxi/Alternate transportation: You may also opt for an alternate form of transportation from the airport or other arrival location. Please see this resource from the Pittsburgh International Airport for taxi or driver services: options include: Yellow Cab (412) 321-8100 or Super Shuttle (800) 258-3826.  
  • Uber: Uber now operates in Pittsburgh as well and provides a simple way to find transportation in our city. Please download and set up and account via the app for this service prior to arrival. Students should come to 1060 Morewood Ave, Pittsburgh PA 15213 (corner of Forbes & Morewood) and enter the building through the courtyard.
  • Driving: Driving directions will be provided via email to the students in order to ensure that they arrive to the correct residence hall. 

Orientation Day (Sunday, July 2, 2017)

Students will have the opportunity to learn more about Carnegie Mellon University, navigate their way around campus, and get to know other students in the program. We highly encourage all students to take full advantage of this day. Please find a SAMPLE ORIENTATION DAY schedule here.

Early Arrival Information

All requests for early or arrival must be submitted through the Enrollment Portal before June 1, 2017. If you are submitting an Early Arrival request, please be aware that the arrival window is:

  • International Students: Thursday, June 29, 2017, 12pm-7pm
  • Early Arrival Domestic Students: Friday, June 30, 2017, 12pm-7pm.

If you are in need of an accommodation for arrival prior to opening day or parents need a place to stay, please visit Carnegie Mellon's recommended accomodations site. Please be aware that most hotels in the United States will not permit an individual under the age of 18 to stay in a hotel without a parent/guardian.
