Onboarding Tasks and Benefits Elections

Onboarding tasks are completed in Workday, the university’s HR and payroll system. Refer to the CMU-Africa Onboarding Checklist [pdf] for step-by-step instructions.

  • Benefits Elections: You must elect or defer benefits elections within 30 days of your eligibility date. Benefits differ depending on whether you are an expatriate/non-Rwandan local hire or a Rwandan local hire. View the CMU-Africa benefits page for details, including the latest benefits guide and rates.
  • Payroll: Use Workday to make your payment elections, enter time (for hourly employees) and view your payslips. How-to guides and payroll calendar are available.
  • Time Off Requests: Use Workday to submit time off requests or view time off balances. Refer to the Time Off System Guide [pdf] for instructions.
  • Policies: The CMU-Africa Staff Handbook [pdf] provides an overview of policies, procedures and employment practices, as well as benefits and resources.
