Payments to Foreign Nationals Workshop
The Taxation Department is holding a training session titled “FIN – Payments to Non-Resident Aliens Workshop” via Zoom from 1 - 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. This session provides an overview of the process for and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations around Accounts Payable payments to individuals who are not a U.S. citizen or a U.S. national.
The university interacts with international students and visitors who are involved in various services and activities for the university for which it may be appropriate to provide travel reimbursements, honorariums, or other payments. Carnegie Mellon is required to obtain and follow certain procedures to comply with IRS rules and regulations related to payments to non-resident aliens.
Interested participants should register for the FIN – Payments to Non-Resident Aliens Workshop in FocusU by March 26. A zoom link will be provided upon registration.
Members of the Tax Department will be present for the workshop and available to discuss frequently asked questions regarding tax withholding and the required forms for non-resident alien payments. Additional information is also available on the Foreign Nationals (non-resident alien) website.
