Hamerschlag Hall Green Roof

Hamerschlag Hall's new state of the art extensive green roof system is possible with funds received from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Energy Harvest Program and the 3 Rivers Wet Weather Demonstration Program.
A waterproof root resistant membrane forms the bottom layer and on top is drainage material, soil and plants.

The roof provides many benefits including:

  •     Combats urban heat island effect
  •     Slowing rainwater runoff
  •     Extra insulation reduces heating and cooling costs

    urban heat island

The roof is equipped with monitoring equipment to monitor benefits.  With positive results we may be seeing  more green roofs across campus in the future!
