  • Rossina Soyan was awarded a GuSH Grant from the provost's office for a project she and Katharine Burns are working on together called "Exploring the connections between bilingual proficiency and language attitudes, choices and uses among three generations of Tuvan-Russian bilinguals." 
  • Nuria Ballesteros Soria was appointed as special faculty in the Dean’s Office in Dietrich College at Carnegie Mellon University.
  • Michael DeSalvo has been awarded a Graduate Teaching Fellowship with the Eberly Center for the Spring 2022 semester.
  •  Xiaomeng Li has been selected as a recipient of a 2021 Duolingo English Test Doctoral Dissertation Award.
  • Xiaomeng Li has been named a 2021-2022 William S. Dietrich II Presidential Ph.D. Fellow.
  • Lindsay Zhang, Ananya Vasude, Sophia Hill, and Anyah Stempien-Smith were recently published in the Richard Macksey Journal for their article titled, "The Role of Face Masks in Native and Non-Native Speech Perception."
  • Valentino Rahming (Ph.D. SLA) has received a fellowship from the Lyford Cay Foundation. The Lyford Cay Foundation is a philanthropic organization in the Bahamas that prides itself on volunteerism through community-based initiatives and investment in educational opportunities for Bahamians.
  • Jacob Feldgoise (minor: Chinese Studies) has been named the recipient of the Carnegie Mellon University's 2021 K&L Gates Prize, which recognizes graduating seniors who have inspired their classmates through intellect, high scholarly achievement, character, and student engagement. 
  • Julia Conti (major: Hispanic Studies), Emma Cordray (major: Hispanic Studies), Maxine Graves (major: Hispanic Studies), Muling He (major: Russian Studies), Zhi-Wei Leon (minor: Japanese Studies), Joshua Pinckney (major: Hispanic Studies), and Ana-Maria Poole (major: French and Francophone Studies) have been inducted into the honor society Phi Beta Kappa.
  • Nuria Ballesteros Soria has been chosen as one of the Dietrich Graduate Assessment Fellows for the Spring 2022 semester.
  • Jacob Feldgoise (minor: Chinese Studies) is the recipient of the highly renowned James C. Gaither Junior Fellowship, which will fund him to work at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
  •  Zachary Rapaport (major: Hispanic Studies) has obtained a 2021 fellowship with the highly selective, nine-month Urban Fellows Program which introduces a diverse group of college students and graduates to local government and public service.
  • Julia Conti (Hispanic Studies), Emma Cordray (Hispanic Studies), Maxine Graves (Hispanic Studies), Muling He (Russian Studies), Joshua Pinckney (Hispanic Studies), and Ana-Maria Poole (French and Francophone Studies) have been inducted into the honor society Phi Beta Kappa
  • Polina Petrov earned a Silver Medal and Alexander Dorfman earned an honorable mention in the American Council of Teachers of Russian's annual National Post-Secondary Russian Essay Contest of 2021. Over 1100 students from 30 universities submitted essays that were evaluated by judges in Moscow.
  • Russian studies students earned 5 bronze medals, 7 silver medals, and 5 gold medals in an ACTR Olympiada of Spoken Russian in 2021. Benjamin Malinski and Julia Timmons were awarded ACTR book prizes for their exceptional performance.
  • Esther Bedoyan (minor: Chinese Studies) has received a Barry Goldwater Scholarship
  • Seung Eun Lee, Matthew Fang , Lilianna Turner, Carrie Haney, and Connor Leemhuis have been inducted into the National Collegiate Chinese Honor Society.
