Study Abroad Programs and Scholarships

Explore, engage and immerse yourself in one of our summer study abroad programs in China, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Spain or Qatar.

We encourage all students — particularly LCAL majors and minors — to study abroad. Opportunities outside of our seven programs are available through CMU's Study Abroad Office. LCAL faculty members will work with students to help select a program that best meets their educational and personal goals.

Looking for opportunities to teach, study and conduct research post-graduation? Learn more about the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

Scholarships & Funding

Our department offers scholarships for students participating in accredited study abroad programs, open to all CMU students, regardless of their major. These scholarships can be applied toward expenses such as tuition, room and board, airfare or books. Please note, while all students are welcome to apply, preference will be given to LCAL majors and Arabic Studies minors. Learn more about potential scholarships and access the application. The deadline to apply for Summer 2025, Fall 2025 and Spring 2025 scholarships is January 31, 2025.

Dietrich College also provides funding opportunities for undergraduate study abroad, and many students can apply their Carnegie Mellon funding to these experiences. For more details, visit the Dietrich College Study/Travel Abroad Grant Program website as well as the Office of International Education's Study Abroad website.
