Catherine Getchell, Sean Jin, Sabrina Zafar
Carnegie Mellon University – Arabic Studies

This presentation explores the history, implementation, and impact of censorship and limits on freedom of expression in the Arab world.  From restrictions on traditional media, to use of social media, artistic expression, and the Internet, government-imposed censorship and limits on freedom of expression have had profound impacts on Arab societies and, indeed, human lives.  This presentation gives a broad overview of censorship and freedom of expression in the Arab world at large and then drills down to take a close look at this topic as it pertains to Saudi Arabia.
