Award-winning 'Humanitarian Poet' Finds Home in Pittsburgh
Bertony Louis walks the mural-lined streets of Pittsburgh’s North Side carrying Haiti with him — its language, its struggles and its enduring strength. A Haitian writer who calls himself a “humanitarian poet,” Louis has built an internationally recognized body of work rooted in exile, justice and survival. This fall, he joined Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics as a research fellow, where he has begun exploring exile and humanitarian literature while sharing his poetry, research and translations with students and the broader community.
