Bio

Keely Austin's work focuses on exploring language ideologies in curriculum development and assessment, with the goal of creating meaningful, equitable learning experiences for all students. She is deeply committed to mentoring, designing inclusive course and program curricula, and collaborating across disciplines to support diverse learners. At the heart of her teaching philosophy is a belief in fostering fair opportunities that help students strengthen their voices and discover their own unique learning paths.

Within the Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics, Dr. Austin has taught courses such as Ideologies of Critical Language Awareness (82-795), Teaching Methodologies: TESOL (82-794D), and Linguistic and Cultural Equity: Theories and Practice (82-184). In the English Department, her teaching has included First-Year Writing Program courses (76-100 and 76-101), the tutoring practicum (76-302/702), and graduate-level writing and communication courses for multilingual students (76-745 and 76-748). Dr. Austin also served as Director of Communication and Language Support in the Student Academic Success Center, where she worked to advance student support initiatives.

Her commitment to educational diplomacy extends beyond the classroom. She has partnered with programs such as Research Internship Summer Scholars (RISS), Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium (SURS), Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) and The Neighborhood Academy, building meaningful connections and creating enriching opportunities for students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, hiking and petting other people’s dogs—often while reading a good book.
