Naming of the Jared L. Cohon University Center
The Cohon University Center is named for Carnegie Mellon University President Emeritus Jared L. Cohon, who served as the university's president from 1997 through 2013. Cohon's honor is part of a long legacy of naming university buildings for former presidents, and serves as recognition for his contributions to the campus community, including record levels of philanthropic support and alumni engagement.
Previously known as the University Center, the CUC was named on April 11, 2014, during the 100th anniversary of Spring Carnival, an annual event bringing together students, alumni, and members of the Pittsburgh and campus community. Carnival events occur all over the campus, but the CUC serves as a central hub for visitors and reunion events.
