Stack'd Underground Opening in Morewood Gardens
Pittsburgh's Mero Restaurant Group is joining Dining Services as the operator of Stack'd Underground, located on the lower level of Carnegie Mellon Univeristy's largest residence hall, Morewood Gardens.
Mero Restaurant Group was founded in 2011 by University of Pittsburgh alums and college roommates Jamie Rodgers and Maurry Mendelovich, and, soon after, partner Michael Garner. The group started with the Stack'd Burgers concept, bringing their take on gourmet custom-built burgers to the Shadyside neighborhood. Mero's team deployed a start-up mentality of iteration testing to improve the product, rooted in the founder's background in technology. Through this process, the company expanded from burgers to Nashville-style chicken, unique flavored tacos, and gourmet grilled cheeses. Today, the company operates eight locations in the Pittsburgh region, employing over 250 employees and serving thousands of customers a day.
"We are so thrilled to join the CMU community and bring our most popular and best-selling food from our restaurants," shares Rodgers. "The menu includes smashed burgers from Stack'd, Nashville chicken from CHiKN, and gourmet grilled cheese from Melt'd. In addition to these best sellers, the location will offer a selection of wraps and salads, including vegetarian and halal options."
Stack'd Underground will operate seven days a week, with late-night hours. The space includes flexible, communal seating options and a designated performance area with upgraded resident sound and lighting. Students interested in booking the performance space can email Mero Restaurant Group.
