Redhawk Coffee Now Open in Scaife Hall

Redhawk Coffee, one of Pittsburgh's leading coffee roasters, is joining Carnegie Mellon University Dining Services in the newly constructed Scaife Hall. This modern cafe will offer a world-class coffee experience to the campus communities in a comfortable, welcoming space.

Redhawk started in 2017 when Braden Walter Jr. and Mary Gonzales tapped their love of coffee and hospitality to support their family by opening their first coffee truck. Since then, Redhawk quickly developed a cult following and became one of Pittsburgh's favorite roasters and cafes, with current locations in Oakland and Sharpsburg. Redhawk's high standards for sourcing are at the heart of their exceptional quality. Purchased from the best farms, co-ops, and washing stations around the globe, Redhawk's coffee beans are roasted to express an accessible, easy-to-drink flavor profile while retaining their character. With single-origin and blended options, Redhawk will have offerings that appeal to every coffee aficionado.

"Redhawk is excited to join the CMU campus community," shares Walter. "Our mission is to create an inviting environment where students, professors, and staff can come together to enjoy premium coffee and build meaningful connections. We understand the importance of providing a space for students to study, unwind, and engage in conversations, and we look forward to becoming an integral part of the campus culture."

Redhawk's menu will feature their specialty, locally roasted coffee, locally baked pastries, and grab-and-go options. With a convenient location, accessible hours, and even the option to order ahead with Grubhub, Redhawk is excited to serve and become a part of the CMU campus community.

Dr. Jon Cagan, the George Tallman and Florence Barrett Ladd Professor in Engineering and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, shares, "I am thrilled to welcome Redhawk Coffee to the new Scaife Hall. The building is an exciting space that supports innovative education and research and is a unique focal point as the entrance to campus from the south side of campus. Redhawk's commitment to and novelty in inviting people to enjoy their quality brand fits nicely into this new ecosystem. Mechanical Engineering looks forward to partnering with them in this new endeavor."
