Collaborative Data Analysis with ISLE

Burckhardt, P., Genovese, C., and Nugent, R.

While data are increasingly analyzed by multi-disciplinary teams instead of a single statistician, it is still common practice to simply send emails back and forth among project collaborators. To let students in our introductory statistics course analyze data in groups in a more natural manner, we have extended the data explorer of the Integrated Statistical Learning Environment (ISLE) to support workflows that allow students to continually share results. The ISLE data explorer allows one to conduct data analyses from start to finish (data import to report writing) in a single web-based application without the need for any coding. The new collaborative features include a common workspace with shared outputs, an action history, and group chat. This fosters new possibilities for peer learning. Summit participants will get the chance to use the new collaborative features in a live-demonstration of a basic data analysis project on a provided laptop."
