Talking Across the Generations

Alba, W.

This Lightning Talk presents two examples of intergenerational education. In Spring 2017, participants from the University of Pittsburgh Osher Lifelong Learning Institute enrolled in Energy: Science, Society, and Communication, the undergraduate course that I developed and taught in partnership with the Pitt Honors College and the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering. In Spring 2018 and Fall 2018, participants from the Carnegie Mellon Osher Lifelong Learning Institute engaged in Big Questions discussions that I facilitated for the undergraduate residents of Stever House. I will describe the benefits of including diverse multigenerational perspectives in classroom and informal settings, as well as some challenges for those interested in implementing similar programs.
