Steps to Establishing an Award

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) receives an award from a Sponsor. The award may or may not require a signature. The award may or may not require additional processing before the award is accepted by CMU.

If the award does not require any negotiation of terms, the award is signed and given to the Award Research Administrator for processing.

If the award does not require any negotiation of terms and does not require a signature, the award is given to the Award Research Administrator for processing.

If the award does require negotiation of terms, the award is given to one of the Contracts Officers at OSP. The award is not passed to the Award Research Administrator until the agreement has been modified and, if necessary, signed before it is given to the Award Research Administrator for processing.

Awards processed by OSP are either maintained only in the OSP office of transmitted to Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA) if an Oracle account number needs to be established.

The Award Research Administrator determines if the award needs to be transmitted to SPA.
