Bio

Pronouns: (he/him/his)

I'm currently the Director of Advising for Dietrich College, but I started my journey at Carnegie Mellon back in 2009 as a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of History, which I earned in 2015. After working for a few years, I got to come full circle in 2017, when I returned to the History Department to advise undergraduate history majors. Advising, supporting, and mentoring students is one of my great passions, in large part because I want to give back because of how much I benefited from the wonderful advisors I had when I was a student! I was honored to win the University's Academic Advising Award for outstanding contributions to advising and mentoring in 2023, but the greatest satisfaction in my job is helping my students achieve their goals at CMU and beyond.

In addition to advising, I've taught a number of history courses over the years, and I've published my research on environmental history and politics in a peer-reviewed volume on nuclear energy policy. I've also been invited to present my work at numerous national and regional conferences, though the highlight for me was giving a public keynote address on Earth Day about environmentalism, U.S. politics and the Chesapeake Bay.

When I'm not doing something academic, I'm probably either out running and training for an upcoming race, walking my dog Sam, cheering on all my favorite sports teams, or just reading a good book. (Likely a history book, let's be honest!)
