Microsoft Office

Students, faculty and staff may download Microsoft Office for university and personal use. 

  • Students, faculty and staff may install Microsoft Office on up to five devices, including mobile devices, using Office 365.
  • Office 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Skype, OneNote, and OneDrive are not available.

To download Microsoft Office 365:

  1. Visit the Microsoft Office Portal.
  2. Enter your Andrew email (e.g., userid@andrew.cmu.edu) and click Next.
  3. Enter your Andrew userID and password into CMU Web Login.
  4. Click Login to authenticate with DUO.
  5. Click the Install Office button (upper right) and click Office 365 apps.
  6. Once the software downloads, double-click the file and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Note: After installing Microsoft Office on a Mac, you may receive a message indicating your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac. Click the Use Another Account link and enter your Andrew userID and password to complete the activation process.

  • If an IT administrator or DSP does not support your university-owned computer, follow the instructions for personal computers and mobile devices to download Microsoft Office from Office 365.
  • If an IT administrator or DSP does support your university-owned computer, they will install Microsoft Office using Office 365 or a Volume License version of the software.
  • Office 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Skype, OneNote, and OneDrive are not available.

Microsoft Online Store Apps

Microsoft Online Store Apps (MOSAs) are enabled for installing Microsoft Office add-ins. Add-ins provide custom commands and features to Office programs but can increase risk.
