Summer Cruise Description
Unlike Navy Option and Marine Option Midshipmen, Nurse Option Midshipmen only attend two summer cruises. First, following your freshman year, you will spend your cruise on a larger ship with medical facilities and experience life as a nurse afloat. Your senior summer cruise will be spent at a naval hospital. During this time, you'll shadow a Navy nurse and experience life at a land-based naval hospital.
These summer cruises will show you the life of the Navy Nurse Corps that you won't read about in your nursing curriculum at school. You'll experience treating Sailors, Marines and civilians. These summer training experiences are not only hands-on learning tools that will prepare for your life as a Navy nurse, but they also expose you to new people and different leadership styles that you can take with you throughout life.
