Navy Option

At the Steel City NROTC program, our Battalion consists of approximately 80 Midshipmen who attend Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh or Duquesne University.  With different university backgrounds, our Midshipmen participate in a wide variety of academic programs.  While many of our Midshipmen are engineering students, we also have many who pursue degrees in business, the physical sciences and the humanities.  Within the NROTC program, there are broad career tracks for you to pursue: Navy Option, Marine Option, and Nurse Option. Your individual requirements and commitments will vary according to the path you choose.

In addition to your university coursework, Navy Option Midshipmen take one class each semester that is taught by an NROTC instructor.  Additionally, the Battalion gathers on a weekly basis in uniform to conduct professional military training. These weekly training events often include guest speakers, current affairs briefs, warfare community lectures and drill sessions.  The Battalion also conducts physical training (PT) on a weekly basis and all Midshipmen are expected to participate in a wide-range of extracurricular activities. As a Navy Option Midshipman, you will have the opportunity to join one of four exciting paths in the Navy as a newly commissioned officer.  The surface, submarine, aviation, and special operations warfare communities offer exciting opportunities and immediate leadership experience that will benefit you far into the future.
