LT Benjamin Stewart

Lieutenant Benjamin Stewart is a native of Mukilteo, Washington. He attended the University of Colorado Boulder where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering, a minor in Leadership Studies, and a commission in the United States Navy through the university’s NROTC program. 

Upon commissioning in December 2016 as a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer, he reported to the USS HOPPER (DDG 70) homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He spent two years as the Communications Officer in support of various Ballistic Missile Defense and Freedom of Navigation operations throughout both 5th and 7th Fleets. 

In March of 2019, he reported to Charleston, South Carolina, where he began the Naval Nuclear Propulsion training pipeline. After graduating, he was assigned to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN  69) in Norfolk, Virginia. 

As part of a seven-month deployment to the Middle East in 2021, DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER supported the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan through Operation Inherent Resolve. During this time, he served as the Reactor Control Division Officer and as a qualified Propulsion Plant Watch Officer.  He became a qualified Nuclear Engineering Officer in January 2022.

 In August 2022, he moved up to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to serve as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science in the Naval ROTC Unit at Carnegie Mellon University.

 He and his wife Abby, who is a nurse at a local hospital, enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, camping, and fly fishing.
