Once again, our hearts are broken from a senseless act of hate. Unfortunately, it has become all too familiar in our society when we are shaken by a tragedy involving gun violence. Yesterday's shooting hits close to home because it happened on a university campus. Today, we send our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the shooting victims, and to the campus community at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

We stand together with all of academia in support of UNC Charlotte as the university begins to recover from this senseless act. We should all be safe and free on a college campus to explore, learn, teach and research, and Carnegie Mellon is committed to keeping our university community safe.
