The Mellon College of Science's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion welcomed Adrie Fells, DEI program coordinator, earlier this year.
Fells earned her bachelor's degree from Duquesne University. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon University, she worked as a development coordinator for the Pittsburgh chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, an organization that promotes social programs to people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
"Accessibility benefits everyone in the most obvious ways. You don't need to be in a wheelchair to benefit from the buttons that open doors. In the same way, DEI programming and initiatives help everybody," Fells said.
Fells' work is to create DEI programs for students, faculty and staff and facilitate partnerships with organizations promoting DEI outside of Carnegie Mellon. She said she hopes to use her position to create bridges between the Mellon College of Science and minority-serving institutions.
