What a year! From the expansion of the new science building, groundbreaking research and laying the foundation for the first-ever academic cloud lab, the Mellon College of Science is transforming discovery. The college community also celebrated many accomplishments and grew closer through activities and events. New Plans Expand Hall of Sciences
Carnegie Mellon University will create a new facility that will more than double its gallery space for the Miller Institute for Contemporary Art as part of the new Richard King Mellon Hall of Sciences.

Regrowth Research
Carnegie Mellon biologists discovered a mechanism that underlies the regeneration of neurons in starfish, showing for the first time that starfish can regenerate their nervous system.

Sydlik Named Moore Inventor Fellow
The award recognizes early-career, scientist-inventors such as Stefanie Sydlik who is working on a tool to treet low-levels of lead poisoning. She is Carnegie Mellon's first Moore Inventor Fellow.

Black History Month Panel
The Mellon College of Science hosted a discussion with Black Pittsburgh leaders in recognition of Black History Month. The panel covered topics from mentoring to leadership to community service.

Braun Wins Advising Award
Maggie Braun received the 2022 University Advising Award at the Celebration of Education for her profound impact on undergraduate education and advising.

Magnetic Switch
I-Hsuan Kao, Ryan Muzzio and research partners showed that running an electrical current through a novel two-dimensional material could control the magnetic state of a neighboring magnetic material.

David Anderson Honored
For pouring his heart into courses, Associate Teaching Professor of Physics David Anderson received Carnegie Mellon's 2022 William H. and Frances S. Ryan Award for Meritorious Teaching.

Math Skills and the Market
Students solved math problems and made trades and sales based on different problems’ perceived values during the Market Making Game, sponsored by the Quant Club and Optiver.
