Carnegie Mellon University

November 8, 2017

Dear Members of the Carnegie Mellon University Community,

As we approach Veterans Day, I encourage you to set aside time to remember all those who have served our country as veterans, as well as all active-duty service men and women and their families.

Our achievements as a community stand as a tribute to the bravery of all those who fought to preserve our right to free expression and the pursuit of knowledge. We owe an incredible debt of gratitude to these courageous men and women, especially those CMU faculty, students, staff and alumni who serve our country and enhance our community as military veterans.

To commemorate Veterans Day on our Pittsburgh campus, the CMU Naval ROTC Unit will be hosting a ceremony on Friday, November 10 at 7:50 a.m. at the flagpole on The Cut. The event will include raising of the colors, a salute to veterans, and remarks by Captain William Breitfelder, Commanding Officer of our Naval ROTC program.

I ask the CMU community to join me in honoring our veterans at this time and every day we enjoy the freedoms of our democracy.

Warm regards,

Farnam Jahanian
Interim President
