Departmental Waitlist Contacts

The following is a guide to the undergraduate and graduate waitlist contacts and policies of various academic departments. Students who are waitlisted for courses during registration should visit the Waitlist Navigation Guide webpage for a general overview of the waitlist process, then consult this guide to determine how to resolve their status, as policies vary by department.

Students are encouraged to wait at least four weeks following registration to allow departments the opportunity to lower their initial reservations and take a first pass at shrinking the waitlists. Departments have up until the tenth day of class to enroll students from the waitlist, if space permits.

  • Architecture - Waitlist decisions are made by course faculty (CFA 201).
  • Art - Waitlist decisions are handled by Mark Cato, mdcato@andrew.cmu.edu, 412-268-1531.
  • Design - Waitlist decisions are made by course faculty (MMC 110).
  • Drama - Waitlist decisions are made by course faculty (PCA 218).
  • Music - Waitlist decisions are handled by the Director of Student Services, Sharon Johnston, slj@andrew.cmu.edu, 412-268-2385, CFA 108, in consultation with course faculty.
  • Biomedical Engineering - Waitlists are handled by the undergraduate program office (Scott Hall 4N200).
  • Civil & Environmental Engineering - Waitlists are handled by Andrea Francioni Rooney, francioni@cmu.edu, 412-268-9723.
  • Chemical Engineering - Waitlist decisions for undergraduates are handled by Nora Siewiorek, norann@andrew.cmu.edu. Waitlist decisions for graduate courses (06-600 and higher) are handled by Heather Costello, hcostell@andrew.cmu.edu. Both are located in Doherty 1106.
  • CIT Interdisciplinary - Waitlists are handled by the CIT Undergraduate Studies Office (Scaife 120).
  • Electrical & Computer Engineering - Waitlists are handled by the Academic Services Center, ece-waitlists@andrew.cmu.edu.
  • Engineering & Public Policy - Waitlists are handled by Debbie Kuntz, deborahk@andrew.cmu.edu, 412-268-3303.
  • Integrated Innovation Institute - Waitlists decisions are primarily handled by course faculty in consultation with the Associate Director. All questions can be directed to iii@cmu.edu. 
  • Mechanical Engineering - Waitlist decisions are handled by the academic advising staff. For 24-101, please contact Kurt Larsen, klarsen@cmu.edu. For all other undergraduate courses (24-1xx through 24-4xx) please contact Katie Jones ksjones@andrew.cmu.edu. For graduate courses (24-5xx and above) please contact Melissa Brown, mlb2@andrew.cmu.edu. 
  • Materials Science & Engineering - Waitlists are handled by the undergraduate program office (Wean 3325).
  • Economics - Waitlists are handled by the undergraduate program office, econprog@andrew.cmu.edu (Tepper Quad 2400).
  • English - Waitlist decisions for 76100, 76101, 76102, 76106, 76107, 76108, and 76270 are handled by Amy Stoebe, astoebe@andrew.cmu.edu, 412.268.4615.
