Build Understanding

Reading is a great way to expand one's knowledge and expose oneself to new ways of thinking. It is also one of the easiest and quickest ways to access new ideas and information. Staff members have access to a variety of reading material, from journals to books, in print and electronic formats. We encourage staff members to explore the available resources, and to devote a few moments every week to expanding their knowledge base through reading.

Every staff member has access to the CMU libraries, and the library staff have developed a guide for staff members to assist in identifying and accessing information related to their daily work. Professional Development Resources @ the CMU Libraries allows staff members to access recommended reading, curated by the Library staff, on topics such as supervision, teambuilding and conflict resolution. The guide opens the door to countless resources available to staff, from reviewing one of the recommended readings to completing a targeted search.

FocusU also provides staff members with access to thousands of books on a variety of relevant topics with its Books 24/7 library. Log into FocusU and click on "Build Understanding" to browse the library by subject or search for a specific title or author. Books can be searched, bookmarked, and read on computers or mobile devices.
